Liberty Hill Public Library Volunteer Guidelines
Position Overview: Volunteers will assist library staff in a variety of ways with any projects that need to be completed. These may include but are not limited to: helping with children’s activities, preparing craft kits, cleaning and straightening library materials and clean-up from special activities.
Volunteers who have completed the shelving training program may be asked to assist library staff by shelving materials, searching for items, and straightening and/or organizing shelves. They may also be asked to help patrons with things such as using the catalog and locating materials in the library.
Qualifications
To volunteer, you must be:
· At least 14 years old or a candidate for National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) or National Honor Society (NHS)
· Able to work independently and follow directions
· Detail oriented
· Punctual and reliable
· Friendly and helpful
In order to shelve, you must:
· Complete the shelving training program
· Be able to organize items alphabetically and by the Dewey Decimal system
· Be able to carry up to 20 pounds, be on your feet for extended periods of time, and reach high and low shelves

Training and Support Provided
· Orientation and training on library policy and shelving procedures prior to first shift
· Library staff available for support at all times
