Our Mission, Vision & Value Statements

Our Mission

Liberty Hill Public Library District provides a welcoming space with equitable access to library materials, information, technology, innovative programming and services for everyone in our diverse community.  Each day, our mission is to build and engage with our community and enrich the lives of our citizens by nurturing creativity, cultivating the joy of reading, fostering intellectual curiosity, encouraging lifelong learning, and advancing literacies.  We serve the needs of the community by building on the foundation of our shared past, empowering and enhancing our present, and by providing the opportunity to prepare for the future.

Our Vision

We aspire to be the “Heart of the Hill,” a vibrant, welcoming, and essential destination for our community where everyone has equal opportunity to access and find resources, ideas, information, and knowledge so they can explore, create, discover, connect, and thrive.

Our Values

The library belongs to the community and you, our community, shape and inform our work.  The following values also guide our work.

We believe that public libraries are vitally important.

  • • Establishes a communal gathering space that welcomes everyone equally and provides access to vital information and other resources.
  • • Builds positive environments for learning, working, exploring, and browsing for people of all ages, throughout their lives.
  • • Champions intellectual freedom, patron privacy, and equitable, impartial, and inclusive access for all community members as outlined by the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights and Freedom to Read documents.
  • • Represent a fundamental democratic institution that is essential to the success and growth of communities
  • • Creates a strong library that meets the needs of citizens and provides them with the opportunity to thrive and build a strong community.

We believe that the library should serve and meet the needs of the community.

  • • Ensures that the library is an active, engaged, integral, and vital part of the community.
  • • Actively solicits input from community members to identify needs and to be flexible and responsive to changes in those needs.
  • • Focuses outward into the community, and not internally, to determine what services and materials the library should offer.
  • • Advocates for our library, the services we provide, and the value and contributions that we make in our community.

We believe in connection, collaboration, and partnership.

  • • Creates connections and relationships with community stakeholders.
  • • Seeks out opportunities to say yes to community partnerships and collaborations.
  • • Forms mutually beneficial relationships with local businesses and other nonprofits.
  • • Assists local schools and homeschoolers in their educational missions.

We believe everyone has equal access to library materials and services.

  • • Selects high-quality diverse resources in a variety of formats and provides a broad array of programs and services to meet patron information needs.
  • • Embraces all community members equally and to have them reflected and represented in the library, its spaces, services, and collections.
  • • Creates collections that represent multiple points of view and that reflect the diversity of the community in all collections.
  • • Provides free and equal access to collections to everyone in the community.
  • • Strives to actively remove all types of barriers to library access for community members.

We believe in the value of literacy, curiosity, knowledge, recreation, and education.

  • • Libraries are more than a collection of books, information, and technology, they are catalysts for imagination, creativity, curiosity, and exploration.
  • • Improves lives through building a joy of reading, improving all types of literacy, and creates a love of lifelong learning for patrons of all ages.
  • • Provides access to information that community members need to succeed, adapt, and thrive at school, work, and in their personal lives in a constantly changing world.
  • • Offers materials, programs, and services that stimulate thinking, increase knowledge, stimulate curiosity, and improve leisure time.

We believe in hiring an exceptional staff with outstanding customer service skills.

  • • Staff will be flexible, friendly, and positive and conduct themselves with honesty, trust, integrity, respect, and accountability to earn the trust of all stakeholders.
  • • Recognizes that staff are the most important resource the library has.
  • • Training prioritizes exceptional customer service to all patrons.
  • • Focuses on meeting users’ interests and needs through professional expertise, courteous attention, responsiveness, kindness, and respects patron privacy.
  • • Works together in a spirit of cooperation and teamwork to support each other’s efforts to achieve organizational excellence and provide quality services to our community.

We believe in being accountable and good stewards of financial and material resources.

  • • Fiscally responsible with the public funds entrusted to our care and stewardship.
  • • Accountable to our customers, to our fellow staff members, our Board of Trustees, and to our community.
  • • Practices equitable decision-making and prudent management in the development and allocation of resources.
  • • As elected officials, the library board guides library development to meet community needs, advocates on behalf of the library, and answers to the community.
